Gender Discrimination Group Essay

Gender issues have always been an important and controversial topic in the history of mankind and still to this day, especially in Ancient China and the Middle East.  Gender discrimination can be seen in a historical context from foot binding, ‘the three obedience and four virtues’, women being forced to wear a burka or other coverings, and subjugation to men. Furthermore, in these two cultures, society has always set a hierarchy for genders, which put men above women. Using sources we have found in literature and online, as well as our own experience, we will in the following paragraphs give more examples about gender issue in these two cultures.

Xiaoxue’s essay: Gender Issues in China

Just as in Chinese culture Middle Eastern culture has had its share of cultural and gender related issues. The following section will explore some of these gender based issues and seek to explain the cause and origin of these types of discrimination.

Christian’s essay: Gender Issues in the Middle East

Examples of gender discrimination for both societies go well beyond what we have discussed here, but in the interest of clearly and simply informing the reader that gender issues still exist today we will cut our discussion of with this. Gender issues have always been an important and controversial topic in the history of mankind and still to this day. Personal experience and our literary and online sources have given us a good insight into to what these issues are, how they have affected society, and to some extent the causes behind them. Gender discrimination isn’t something that we should let idly pass us by; it is the responsibility of each individual to do what they can to eliminate gender discrimination.
